Calendar Coffee | Karimikui | Kenya | Filter | 250g

Flavour notes: Blackberry & Rose Hip
Harvest: December 2023

From the Roasters:

Kenya mainly produces washed coffees, and many would argue they are consistently among the highest quality coffees in the world. We certainly think so!

The Karimikui washing station is located in the high altitudes of Kirinyaga, and is owned and run by the Rung’eto Farmers Cooperative. This lot consists of coffee grown in the areas surrounding the washing station. The coffees are delivered to Karimikui as whole cherries, and the team at the factory hand sort the harvest before it goes into production, removing any under or overripe fruit. The coffees are dry fermented overnight, before being washed and graded in channels. They are then dried on raised beds for 8-14 days. The farmers in the area mainly grow SL28 and SL34, but as with almost all Kenyan cooperative coffees, there can be a mix of everything. Other common cultivars are K7, Ruiru 11 and now also Batian.

The quality from Karimikui was outstanding last season, and this year is no different! Roasted for filter brewing, expect a sweet and silky cup with flavours of rhubarb, blackberry and rose hip.
