From the Roasters:
An Ethiopian coffee variety, grown in the highlands of Colombia. We’re delighted to welcome back José Gregorio’s Gesha to our range this summer!
This exceptional coffee was produced at Finca Holanda in Garzón, Huila, where José cultivates several coffee varieties - including the highly prized Gesha. We had the pleasure of visiting Finca Holanda in 2023, where Jose proudly gave us a tour of the land and shared insights into his processing techniques.
Most of the coffee on the farm is dried on patios using a parabolic dryer - a large, greenhouse-like structure that shields the coffee from the elements and enables efficient drying. To maximise quality, however, the Gesha cherries are dried a little differently. Jose uses raised beds within a well-ventilated parabolic dryer, allowing the coffee to dry more slowly and evenly. This attention to detail helps preserve the delicate characteristics that make this variety so special.
Gesha is gaining popularity in Colombia thanks to the premium prices it can command. However, it’s a challenging variety to cultivate, requiring specific environmental conditions and a great deal of care to achieve the exceptional quality farmers strive for. As a result, not every Gesha we taste lives up to the hype - but this one certainly does.
