This coffee comes from a producer we were fortunate to meet during our trip to Colombia in 2023. The farm, Buena Vista, is located in the high altitudes of Gigante, Huila, where Alcidez Avendaño focuses almost exclusively on cultivating the Caturra variety.
Caturra is celebrated for its exceptional cup quality, but its susceptibility to leaf rust and other diseases makes it a risky choice for many coffee producers in the region. Alcidez, however, has remained committed to this variety, believing that the extra effort and risk are justified by the quality it can deliver.
Alcidez is a regular contributor to the Teamwork Espresso lots we source from Gigante, while also producing small, standout micro-lots like this one, which we roast separately. The prices we pay for Alcidez’s coffee are set by him, and this year we’ve committed to purchasing all coffee he produces that score above 86 points.
With vibrant flavors of plum and melon, this coffee is bright, complex, and fruit-forward - a reflection of both Alcidez’s dedication and the unique terroir of Huila.
